A research into for-the-time-being-for-ever in Santiago de Chile In the city there is a constitutive vector, old but as valid as ever: the makeshift. Emergence of all cities, urgency and irruption. We have researched certain fluxes associated with this vector and which represent the makeshift in the city of Santiago. The makeshift suggesting the occasional-fictional, as well as charms. Makeshift: false and charming. We have recognised three strata: the monumental, the legal and the short-term.

Monumental makeshift: UNCTAD and Pasaportes buildings. Official-for-the-time-being solutions that have remained for ever, provisional “to be saved” monumentally. The mise-en-scène of the monumental design of bus stops in the official reorganisation of public transport, Transantiago, with their false additions, inescapable additions to planning by officials.

Legal makeshift: the Ley del Mono, a slang name for the sketch (mono) that this law officialises as the document for housing improvements. Legal makeshift as a charm for improvised construction.

Short-term makeshift: constructions that space out while making space, inaugural in all cities, occasional gesture constructive, conversation between builders, an encounter that becomes a questioned form.

Makeshift city: occasional forever, for the time being.
