| The homeless in Barcelona
We base ourselves on the assimilation of the
city and its public space as a place of residence a house
as well as on the uses and resources stemming from this assimilation
by those living outdoors. The initial aim of our study was the para-architectures
of the so-called homeless.
We created a website in order to represent this new way of managing,
understanding and using the home, borrowing the design and
brand of a well-known Spanish estate agent. Visitors to the site could
look up the different types of homes available in the Greater Barcelona
Area using the classic concepts of rental or purchase. Values such as
safety, communication or home, corresponding to the traditional notion
of a watertight, immobile house, created at a future date (mortgage)
eventually led to the much more flexible idea of a house, through the
process of selecting a dwelling by the user; an open, fragile, heterogeneous
house of the present, that can be moulded to every moment and situation
created from the interpretation of the constructions (post-it)
made on the public thoroughfare by the homeless community.
