The dynamic markets of Taipei

Taipei is a city where a great multi-usage and versatility of space occupation depends on time. Special architectural devices, in the form of transportable stands, create micro-occasional cities and are able to move and plug in to energy and water sources. Temporary activities – markets – transform public space under patterns organized by different distribution:
- through ownership: this market uses an operational system that can predict density in certain conditions and at the same time, the system can be adjusted to other environments (Raohe market);
- through the power source: an established power network modulates the pattern of the market organizing the vending area according to the distribution of points of power and water sources (Ningshia market);
- through time: various activities occupy the same space in different periods of time without special efforts being made to organize the space (Lin Jiang market);
- through structure: these markets take advantage of the existence of a large infrastructure which they occasionally occupy, or through the interpolation or attachment of the structure of the market to city blocks (weekend flower market).
